**SAFE BEAUTY INGREDIENT ALERT** Like many safe and effective ingredients, petrolatum and silicones have been unfairly misrepresented as harmful to the skin. In truth, it poses no risk and do not contribute to skin irritation or congestion. Learn more about both in our Safe Beauty section.
**KEY INGREDIENTS**
**Petrolatum** is an extremely safe and effective FDA-approved skin protectant commonly used for its moisturizing and healing properties. It helps the skin retain essential moisture to prevent dryness and support natural repair. Petrolatum also reduces inflammation and allows the skin’s outer layer to recover from damage. Due to its inert nature, cosmetics-grade petrolatum is unlikely to cause irritation, allergic reactions, or clogged pores making it suitable for sensitive skin, including the lips and eye area.
A rich emollient, petrolatum forms a protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture, making it one of the most effective ingredients for treating very dry or compromised skin. It is widely used for wound healing because it reduces inflammation and supports recovery of the skin’s outer layer. Its inert, non-irritating nature makes petrolatum especially suitable for sensitive or damaged skin.
Cosmetics-grade petrolatum is widely regarded as one of the safest and most effective moisturizing ingredients available. It is highly purified and refined to remove impurities and harmful components. Petrolatum is non-irritating and non-sensitizing making it suitable for even the most delicate areas of the body, including the eye area. It is also a staple in baby care products due to its proven ability to protect and heal compromised skin.
**Silica** is a naturally occurring mineral that plays a vital role in collagen production and inflammation control. In cosmetics, it refines texture and enhances application by allowing pigments to distribute evenly while minimizing shine. It also improves adherence and wear for a smoother, longer-lasting finish. With its exceptional absorbent properties, silica helps control excess oil and moisture, making it an essential ingredient in many high-performance beauty formulations.
**Cetyl Dimethicone Copolyol** is a type of silicone-based polymer that functions as an emollient, conditioning agent, and texture enhancer in cosmetics and skincare. It provides emolliency and significantly boosts a product’s lifespan and performance. It creates a soft, smooth texture and delivers a unique, silky skin feel. it also helps absorb excess sebum to reduce shine and maintain a natural looking finish. -
**HOW TO USE IT** 1. PREP THE SKIN – Start with clean, moisturized skin. A light layer of our Complexion Perfector creates a smooth, even surface that grips the product. The concealer will glide on seamlessly and last longer. 2. CUSTOMIZE YOUR SHADE – Mix the two shades on the back of your hand or a palette, blending until you achieve the desired tone, matching the area that needs concealing. 3. APPLY SPARINGLY - Because the formula is highly pigmented and dense, start with a small amount. Using a brush like our Pro Series Synthetic Bullet Concealer Brush or the Synthetic Conceal + Lip Brush, gently tap the concealer onto the skin. 4. AVOID SWIPING - Gently press the product into your skin rather than swiping it to ensure coverage stays in place and to avoid streaking. Once applied you may tap it into your skin - the natural warmth of your fingers helps soften the formula for easier blending and more even application. 5. BUILD AS NEEDED - Reapply to achieve your desired coverage. 6. BLEND SEAMLESSLY - The goal is to blend the product into your foundation until the edges disappear for a natural, skin-like finish. And this is the one time we recommend using your fingers. Their warmth softens the dense formula, helping it melt seamlessly into the skin, blending away any rough edges. Alternatively, continue to use a flat eye brush to gently blend the edges into the skin without wiping it away. 7. ERASE ULTRA CAMOUFLAGE DUET - Erase is a unique duo of a deep mango-red shade that corrects dark brown or purple discoloration and hyperpigmentation, paired with a pure white tone that neutralizes the red shade while brightening the area. **HOW TO USE ERASE** 1. APPLY THE RED SHADE – Using a fluffy brush like our Angled Blending Brush, lightly tap the shade to dark bluish areas under the eyes that need correction. 2. NEUTRALIZE WITH THE WHITE SHADE – Gently tap flat brush to layer the white shade over the red to neutralize it. 3. BLEND This is the one time we recommend using your fingers. Their warmth softens the dense formula, helping it melt seamlessly into the skin, blending away any rough edges. Alternatively, continue to use a flat eye brush to gently blend the edges into the skin without wiping it away. 4. CREATE A CUSTOM SHADE - You can also blend the two shades to create a range of custom colour-correcting tones tailored to your specific needs. Once applied, neutralize the shade with a thin layer of the white shade before applying foundation. 5. APPLY FOUNDATION - Gently pat foundation over the concealed area to avoid disturbing the finish. Don't swipe or drag the brush as that will cause the concealer to streak and you might have to start over. **APPLY BEFORE OR AFTER FOUNDATION?** BEFORE - The general rule is to apply concealer after foundation, since foundation often provides more coverage than expected. For example, a light layer of Ultra Foundation can reduce redness, even out skin tone, and minimize the appearance of blemishes, discoloration, or mild hyperpigmentation. Applying concealer afterward saves time and ensures you use only what’s needed for a natural, balanced finish. AFTER - Apply concealer before foundation when addressing areas that need color correction, such as under-eye circles. Color correction is challenging but practice makes perfect. Begin with one of our Skin Perfect Colour Perfectors to neutralize discoloration. For dark, bluish under-eye circles, Blaze Ultra Camouflage Duet provides targeted correction and brightening. **CREAM VS LIQUID** Cream concealers deliver fuller coverage than liquid formulas thanks to their thicker texture and higher pigment concentration. While liquid concealers work well on young skin, mature skin or troubled typically benefits from a denser, more opaque formula that provides superior coverage for imperfections. It’s easy to sheer or soften Ultra Camouflage Duet’s formula. Add a drop of Ultra Foundation, Ultra Matte or Ultra Air to your brush to mix with the concealer before applying it. This reduces the density while maintaining its opacity for effective coverage. ** SHOULD I POWDER UNDER MY EYES? ** Loose powder is lighter than pressed powder and works best for setting concealer under the eyes. It helps prevent creasing, settling into fine lines, and cakiness throughout the day, keeping the finish smooth and natural. BUT powdering under the eye can cause a dry, creased, or cakey appearance that emphasizes fine lines and wrinkles. Instead of powder, spray a fluffy brush with a hydrating setting spray like our Face Finish and lightly press it into the skin to lock in coverage. **REVERSE CONTOURING** Reverse contouring is a technique that defines the face by emphasizing light instead of shadow. Applied before foundation, it creates a seamless, natural-looking lift with soft internal highlights, rather than the sharper, more structured effect of traditional contouring. Instead of using darker shades to sculpt or define, lighter, brightening products such as concealers or highlighters are applied to areas you want to bring forward—the cheekbones, under the eyes, and the center of the face, including the forehead, nose, and chin. The result is a soft, radiant and naturally lifted look that subtly enhances the contours of the face. Apply foundation in a stippling or tapping motion after reverse contouring. Swiping or dragging the brush will disturb the placement of the product, compromising its brightening effect . HOW TO REVERSE CONTOUR 1. SHADE MATTERS - The shade must be lighter than your skin tone to reverse contour effectively. Use the white Erase shade or add a tiny drop of Ultra Foundation Pro Adjuster 0− to lighten the concealer as needed. 1. CHEEKBONES - Pat a thin layer of concealer along the tops of the cheekbones, blending upward toward the under-eye area. This brightens and lifts the face, creating a natural highlight with a subtle, radiant finish. 2. NOSE - Apply a narrow strip of concealer down the bridge of the nose, stopping just before the tip to create the illusion of a slimmer, more defined nose. 3. EYEBROWS - Apply concealer t in-between and underneath the outer arch of each eyebrow to brighten and lift the under-eye area - creating a more awake and refreshed appearance. 4. LAUGHLINES - Apply a thin line of concealer directly over the nasolabial folds to visually lift and smooth the area. This softens the appearance of deep lines, creating a more youthful, refreshed look.
